You’ve told us that you’re concerned about the way animals are treated before they get to store and where your food comes from. We think it’s important too. That’s why we have a dedicated team of agricultural managers who make sure we comply with strict animal welfare codes of practice.
We also work with third parties, including the Red Tractor farm assurance scheme, who are governed by stringent legislation. We collaborate with 78,000 UK farmers and 500 food packers and manufacturers on the Red Tractor programme.
All Red Tractor products can be traced right back to their farms of origin. And all of Red Tractor’s suppliers are inspected by an independent body. There are over 450 inspectors working on this farm assurance scheme, who conduct around 60,000 inspections, every year.
This means the Red Tractor logo guarantees the product you are buying has been farmed, processed and packed in the UK to the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, traceability, responsible farming methods, animal welfare and environmental factors.
Red Tractor is owned by the food industry but operates on a not-for-profit basis, representing the interests of key areas in the food chain. Its board includes representatives from the National Farmers’ Union, Dairy UK, independent experts, academics, scientists, vets and consumer representatives.
The Red Tractor label is easy to spot so keep an eye out for it in store on Tesco products. Find out more about Red Tractor here
