We have expanded our new testing programme to incorporate fish. As part of this, we have tested 100 fish products, all of which passed.
These tests form part of our ongoing world-class traceability and DNA testing programme, and our commitment to extend our programme to other food products.
Similar to meat, once fish has been processed, it can be difficult to distinguish between one type of fish and another. For example, skinless white cod fillets and white haddock fillets. In addition to our strict supply chain controls, this testing gives additional reassurance that what’s on the label is in the pack.
Fish products tested include those labelled as containing fish as a major ingredient, such as fish pies, fish fingers and scampi.
